Earlier this year, Alberta-based Shell Employees’ Credit Union unveiled a new brand to signal a revitalized vision and direction for its organization. Along with a new name, Spark the Energy Credit Union, it is looking to grow and broaden its member community to serve the Alberta energy sector. To help launch the credit union’s new brand and get it into the hands of current and future members, it partnered with Celero and ASAPP Online Solutions (“ASAPP”) to provide a new digital onboarding tool that allows members to securely open accounts—anytime, anywhere and on any device.
Once the credit union received approval from its members to move forward with the new name and open its doors to a broader member base, the organization met with Celero and ASAPP to discuss how new digital capabilities could help them achieve future growth.
“With the recent changes in the energy sector in Alberta and taking a deeper look at what we wanted to be for the community and our members, we decided on a new growth strategy for our credit union,” said Badriea Taha, general manager, Shell Employees’ Credit Union. “We were looking for a way to extend our reach, position our new brand well, and add to our ability to provide the great service we are known for. The ASAPP omnichannel account origination fintech solution fit the bill and we were excited that we were able to get it out to market quickly.”
ASAPP’s technology is fully integrated with the DNA® core banking system from Fiserv, allowing the credit union to broaden its reach across the province with 24/7 service, wherever its members are.
“It’s exciting to work with credit unions and pair them with the technology and partners that will make a real difference to their businesses and help them achieve their goals,” said Rojin Nair, general manager, Fintech Solutions for Celero. “ASAPP has a proven track record of on-time implementations and ensuring their solution fully meets the unique needs and expectations of each credit union they work with, and I’m confident the tool will be a tremendous asset for Spark the Energy Credit Union as it moves forward with its vision for the future.”
Spark the Energy Credit Union is planning to launch the new tool in October as part of a larger campaign to promote its new name and market the credit union more broadly. With ASAPP, the credit union will be able to expand their digital footprint by servicing its members’ needs digitally anytime and anywhere.
“We’re very happy to have been selected as Spark’s partner for digital member acquisition strategy,” said Ryan Yates, VP Strategy, ASAPP. “It is a very forward-thinking financial institution and it’s improving the lives of its members. Spark’s communities across Alberta are important to the team at ASAPP, and we look forward to this project and all that lies ahead for the credit union, its growing membership and the expansion of its digital presence.”
